Wood Replacement & Rot Repair in Rancho Cucamonga & Upland
Rot gets cut out and replaced. Never painted over. New wood is primed on all 6 sides before it goes up, then painted to match.
What wood rot repair from Black Horse includes
Black Horse wood rot repair removes rotted fascia, eaves, rafter tails, trim, window sills and garage door trim, and replaces them with new wood cut to match the profile. Every new board is primed on all six sides before it is installed, so moisture has no bare face to soak into. Seams are caulked, nail holes filled, and the new wood is painted to match the house.
Painting over rot is the oldest shortcut in the trade. It looks fine for a few months. Then the soft wood underneath keeps soaking up water, the paint splits, and the rot spreads into the next board.
We replace it instead. Cut out. Replaced. Primed. Sealed. Then painted.
Where rot hides
Rot starts where water sits and sun does not reach. On most Inland Empire homes that means the ends of fascia boards, the bottom of garage door trim and the sills under windows.
- Fascia boards and rafter tails
- Eaves and soffits
- Window and door trim
- Window sills
- Garage door trim and jambs
- Wood siding and corner boards
Why we prime all six sides
Wood soaks up water through every face, including the back and the cut ends. Prime only the front and the back wicks moisture straight into the new board. We prime all six sides before install, so the new wood does not rot from behind.
Found during a Chino Hills repaint
Pressure washing a Chino Hills exterior before a listing, the crew found wood rot on the siding. Then more around a window. Then more on the front. All of it was replaced before the listing photos. They also spotted broken roof tiles that had nothing to do with paint, and sent the homeowner the photos the same day.
Most rot is found the same way, during an exterior repaint. Stucco damage next to the trim? See stucco repair →

Straight answers.
Can you just paint over wood rot?
You can, but it will fail. Paint cannot stop soft wood from soaking up water. The rot keeps spreading under the finish until the paint splits. We cut it out and replace it before we paint.
What does priming all 6 sides mean?
Every new board gets primer on the front, the back, both edges and both cut ends before it is installed. The back and the ends are where water gets in, so priming only the face leaves the board exposed.
How do you know how much rot there is?
Most of it shows up once we pressure wash. We probe soft spots, photograph what we find and send it to you the same day. Nothing gets replaced before we talk it through, whatever the amount.
Where does wood rot show up most in the Inland Empire?
Fascia ends, rafter tails, window sills and the bottom of garage door trim. Those spots hold water after rain and sprinklers and dry slowly in the shade.
Do you replace wood without repainting the whole house?
Yes, for smaller repairs. New wood is primed and painted to match. On an older finish the new paint can look fresher than the wall around it, so we tell you at the estimate if a full side or a full repaint will look better.
Free estimate. Color consult. Prep assessment.
All three included. No percentage-off gimmicks, no sales. One honest price and a crew that shows up.
